A Night at the Museum

On Friday, Tim, Paul, and I spent hours in the Louvre. We walked, explored, sat in awe, etc as the sun slowly set behind the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomph, and Tuileries. It felt kind of magical to be in the Louvre at night.

We knew it would probably be our last visit before leaving, so [...]

I think we have successfully taken Tim to see all the major sights in Paris. We are headed to Versailles on Saturday, but other than that we’ve been to museums, castles, viewpoints, squares, streets, and neighborhoods. It’s been great watching him experience all our favourite places. It’s also a wonderful excuse for us to spend [...]

Victor Hugo’s View of Paris

This morning after breakfast, Paul went to class, Tim went to the Louvre, and I went for a run in the Bois de Vincennes. After class, I met up with Tim to take him to the Orangerie to see the Waterlillies and Invalides to see Napoleon’s tomb.

I enjoyed the slightly warmer weather on the steps [...]

Last night, we decided to brave to cold and mount the Arc de Triomph. It was completely worth it. When we got off at Champs- Elysées-Clemenceau, we were surprised by the Christmas market already in place !

It was complete with Vin Chaud, Alsacian gingerbread, Pronvencal mini wooden saints, russian dolls, the works.

Beneath the [...]

Day Four: Bidart

On our last morning in Biarritz, Patricia took us to a traditional Basque town called Bidart.

We walked around looking at the pretty scenery and Basque style buildings with the traditional green and red framework.

Below is a wall found in all Basque villages where they play some sort of ball game.

Notice the Basque peppers on the [...]

I remember in my Spanish and French classes in high school, we would always look at the map of Spain and France. The teacher would explain, “This mountain range called the Pyrenees splits France and Spain,” and I would always wonder if someone had ever stood on the top of one of those mountains, directly [...]

This morning we had the best luck of the weekend. Just as we headed down to the beach front, the sun came out in brilliant form.

Patricia took us back to the light house for an amazing view of the city and Atlantic.

We hiked around the massive rock point to see the most fantastic views.

Next, we [...]

Day One: Biarritz and Bayonne

Very early on Friday morning, Paul and I headed to Montparnasse station to catch a train back to Aquitaine, one of my favourite places. Five hours later, we were in lovely Biarritz!

Patricia’s house is the type of place I’ve always dreamed of for myself with things from all over the world: Egyptian papyrus from Cairo, [...]

The other day, I decided to go check out France’s National Library. It is now in four different locations, so I chose to go to the oldest part. This was mostly, because of it’s impressive collection of Medieval manuscripts. I got off the Metro at Louvre- Palais Royal and decided to see the courtyard of [...]
